Our understanding of what a concussion is and how to identify it has improved over the last few years both in the public and with clinicians. But are we there yet?

Though still thought of as a knock-out on the sporting field. Most concussions are not sports-related.

Concussions can still be missed, have very limited options for management in the community, and often lack guidance for return to school, work or sport.

Concussions don’t have a one-size fits all treatment. However, with emerging research and multi-disciplinary teams, Physiotherapists can have a pivotal role to add to these patients.

This can be whether we treat musculoskeletal complaints, guide graded exertion, assess and treat vestibular factors, or just educate patients, families and the community on the current evidence.

Through this tutorial, you can see how Physiotherapists have the training to help patients and other health professionals improve assessment and management for the not-so-simple knock on the head.
